VCAL students from St John’s Regional College visited the Replas Environmental Centre as part of their personal development studies. Their teachers are challenging them on thinking about the future and the environment they want to leave for future generations. The students were gobsmacked to learn about the huge scale of plastic production around the world and the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfill or in the oceans. They were excited to learn of the positive solution to the plastic waste problem that Replas provides and were amazed with how many different products can be made from their recycled waste. They have committed to becoming more aware of their plastic consumption and of spreading the word to their friends and family. The school has ordered some recycled plastic seats for their community garden, with the challenge of convincing the principal to incorporate more sustainable solutions in their schools renovations.
