Friday May 3rd saw 28 Engineering students from RMIT University visit the Replas Environmental Centre as part of their studies on sustainable materials. The students discovered just how much plastic is consumed around the world and the subsequent impact it has on our environment. They enjoyed seeing the tangible connection between plastics that are saved from landfill and the products that are produced as a result of the recycling process. The students commented that the shear amount of plastic bags that go into creating one product was surprising. They learned how the products are manufactured, the efficiency of the process and the restraints of design and manufacturing using recycled materials poses. The students left inspired by the impact Replas is making.
